(Day 27 of the Fanfiction series.)
“I want to be a dancer.”
The other members of SJ-M glanced towards the second-youngest member who had spoken up so abruptly as they sat around the table eating breakfast on the fourth-last day of the fanfiction challenge.
“You… do… dance…” Hankyung said in a placating tone, “You danced last night… on stage.”
“Do you mean when the hyungs do their dance solos?” Henry asked as he idly played with a tube of raspberry lip gloss,
“What? No. They can all dance to their hearts’ content, I mean in stories,” Kyuhyun stated as he leaned back in his chair and folded her arms over his chest, “Apparently I don’t dance enough in real life to warrant being a dancer in stories, but what is the point of stories if not to be different from reality!?”
“The stories should still be believable,” Ryeowook said innocently, not knowing the barb his words had.
Kyuhyun stared at the other man with hurt in his eyes just as Donghae clapped his hand over Ryeowook’s mouth.
“C’mon, Kyuhyun, do you really want to be a dancer?” Siwon asked,
“I would like the option,” Kyuhyun muttered, shooting another glare at Ryeowook who was prying Dongahe’s hands from his mouth,
“What is it with everyone and having options?” Hankyung asked, “If you want something, then go get it. Eeteuk wants children, so, fine, we let him think whatever he wants in that head of his. We’ll let him believe Hongki is his son. Shindong wants to be paired with guys, then he should go out and meet some guys.”
“Shindong’s straight,” Henry interjected,
“Donghae wants to be with DBSK, fine, so he joins Cassiopeia,” Hankyung continued, “If you want something, then get it. Kyuhyun, if you want to be a dancer in stories, then be a dancer in real life!”
“That’s too much effort. Can’t I be a dancer just in stories?” Kyuhyun asked, a slight whine in his voice,
“Imagine if you had Donghae dress up like you just so you could convince writers that you’re a dancer?”
Zhou Mi laughed,
Kyuhyun turned his gaze to the China man beside him.
Henry glanced at Kyuhyun and then groaned, “Oh, Buddha, no…”
“Can he really?” Kyuhyun asked, sitting up straighter in his chair,
Zhou Mi blinked, “I was kidding?”
Kyuhyun, ignoring him, turned his eyes to Donghae who sat across from him, “Hyung… Hyung, can you?”
Donghae blinked, “But I…”
“Please?” Kyuhyun stared at him imploringly,
“Did he just say please?” Siwon whispered to the SJ-M leader,
“Forget that, did he just call Donghae ‘hyung’?” Hankyung replied,
Henry touched his hand to the other man’s forehead, “Doesn’t feel hot…”
Kyuhyun smacked his hand away, “Quit it before I throw your lip gloss off the balcony.”
“Evil!” Henry exclaimed, suddenly clasping his beloved item to his chest,
Kyuhyun turned his attention back to Donghae, “Hyung? Please?”
Donghae blinked, gaped, and looked at the other members for help. When they didn’t reply, he muttered, “Traitors,” before turning back to Kyuhyun, “I… I… ’m not tall enough?”
“Insoles!” Kyuhyun replied,
“Our… our hair is different,” Donghae suggested,
“Wigs!” Kyuhyun piped,
“I… don’t do power notes,” Donghae said weakly,
“Voice-over!” Kyuhyun grinned,
Donghae glanced at the other members who watched in stunned silence. Kyuhyun, apparently, was dead-set on having Donghae pretend to be him just so he could be a dancer in fanfictions. His eyes finally rested on Zhou Mi.
He grinned.
“Well…” he began slowly, “If I’m going to pretend to be you, it has to be pretty authentic so the fans don’t realize the switch.”
Kyuhyun nodded violently in silent agreement as the members gaped in surprise.
“That means,” Donghae said, “That I’m going to probably have to sleep with Zhou Mi.”
Kyuhyun blinked and then abruptly stood up, grabbing Zhou Mi’s arm as he did so, “To hell with being a dancer!”
He walked off to his room, dragging Zhou Mi along with him.
“It’s so wrong because we know what they’re probably doing in there,” Siwon shook his head as he looked at his half-eaten breakfast, suddenly without an appetite.
“We always know what they’re doing in there,” Hankyung rolled his eyes as he stood, taking his empty plate with him to the kitchen,
“Aren’t you worried?” Ryeowook piped,
“About what?” Donghae asked,
“What happens when Kyuhyun tells this to Heechul-hyung?” Ryeowook prompted,
“Then, we’re one more day closer to Heechul winning the challenge?” Donghae asked,
“What if Kibum’s around when Heechul’s told about this and Kyuhyun mentions what you said about Zhou Mi?” Henry reminded,
Donghae blinked, “He… wouldn’t…”
Henry raised a brow, “This is Kyuhyun we’re talking about.”
“Oh Buddha, you’re right!” Donghae groaned as he buried his face in his hands, “Do you think he’ll keep quiet if I promise to switch places with him?” He jumped from his seat and raced to Kyuhyun and Zhou Mi’s room, “Kyuhyun! What if – AH!” Donghae, who had walked freely into the room, was suddenly back in the hallway, the door closed securely at his back; “Well… that’s a different kind of dance.”
Ryeowook looked up, “Really? I want to see!”
(Day 28: Hierarchy)
“Free. It feels free, like there’s nothing that can stop me, nothing can hold me down.
It feels as if I can do anything because of love and I’m free of the fear of failure because,
even if I can’t do everything, at least at the end of the day,
there’s still me and him. When all else fails, love won’t.”

(Day 26 of the Fanfiction series.)
It was the fifth-last day of Heechul’s challenge and none of the other members could truly believe that it had gone on so long. It did not help that they kept finding reasons to complain. It did not help that these reasons were so unbearable they had to own up to them. It sure as hell did not help that Heechul had a constant smug smile on his lips and not a conversation went by when he was not bragging. No, it did not help.
Super Junior – M were having a slight reprieve from Heechul, fortunately. As they were in China promoting Super Girl, they had a few day’s rest before having to return to Korea and Heechul. What was unfortunate was that they could not escape the challenge. Hankyung had been closed to banning the members of SJ-M from reading any fanfictions while promoting in China, however the members ignored him and, when he tried to enlist the help of Eeteuk, they ignored “Mother” also.
So, it was with no surprise, but with quite a bit of regret, when the members were gathered in a dressing room and Donghae mentioned the challenge.
“I think I have a complaint to make,” Donghae spoke up from his chair after the last of the stylists left the room and the members were there alone.
One by one, the other members turned their attention to Donghae. Once all of them were looking at him, he began,
“Eunhyuk just told me all about how he made a complaint before about DBSK and SJ pairings,” Donghae explained, “And he was ranting about how he can’t have friends anymore… but, you know what? I want more DBSK and SJ pairings!”
“I swear, if Cassiopeia attack us, I’ll blame you,” Hankyung murmured as he leaned his head against the back of the couch where he sat in the dressing room.
“Seriously!” Donghae exclaimed, “I don’t see why we have to stay within our group. If Eeteuk and Kangin can have children outside of the group, then we should be able to be paired up with other groups!”
“You’re paired up with Jessica from SNSD a lot,” Shiwon commented from his chair,
“That’s not the same thing! I want to be paired up with DBSK!” Donghae replied,
Zhou Mi glanced at the younger man beside him on another couch, “Hey Kyuhyun, if you could be paired up with someone from DBSK –”
“Don’t answer that!” Henry warned just as Kyuhyun swiftly replied, “Changmin.”
“You said that awfully fast,” Zhou Mi raised a brow,
“You did say that fast,” Henry’s own brows rose in surprise,
Kyuhyun shrugged as he crossed his arms, “It’s an obvious choice. I like them tall and Changmin certainly fits that criteria.”
“I’m tall,” Zhou Mi muttered,
“And he’s a curious mix of manliness and cuteness,” Kyuhyun continued nonchalantly,
“I… I can be more manly,” Zhou Mi stated,
“I think you just described Yunho,” Ryeowook blinked,
“No, no… it would definitely be Changmin. Yunho’s too ol –” Kyuhyun swiftly glanced at the man beside him. He cleared his throat as he looked away, “Yunho belongs to Jaejoong anyway.”
“You were about to say old –” Zhou Mi accused,
“I was –”
“You can’t have Yunho!” Donghae stood from his chair, arms crossed over his chest, “I call Yunho as mine. Besides, you already said Changmin – you can’t just switch suddenly with every whim!”
“I just said I wouldn’t choose Yunho!” Kyuhyun stood from the couch, glaring at his hyung, “Junsu’s best friends with Eunhyuk so there must be something wrong with him; Yoochun always has horrible, horrible hair and I’d get too jealous with Jaejoong because he’s too damn beautiful. Like I said – I choose Changmin!”
“Sounds like you’ve put a lot of thought into this,” Zhou Mi mused from the couch,
“It does sound like that,” Henry eyed Kyuhyun, “Are you secretly a Cassiopeia?”
“Of course,” Kyuhyun scoffed, “It’d be dangerous to live in Korea and not be one.”
“But… you’re Super Junior!” Shiwon stated,
“No, no, he’s right. I’m a Cassiopeia, too,” Hankyung murmured from his silent corner.
“See, I’m not the only one who wants more DBSK and SJ pairings!” Donghae cried happily, “From now on we will call it Dong Bang Junior!”
“That… sounds wrong,” Henry said dryly,
“That really does,” Kyuhyun stared at the other man, Zhou Mi nodding from the couch,
“Donghae-hyung, don’t let the Cassiopeia’s hear you making DBSK sound bad!” Ryeowook cried,
“I feel like I should go to church after hearing that title,” Shiwon shook his head as he turned in his chair, giving his back to Donghae,
“Ugh, I just hope the Cassiopeia don’t have anything wired in this room,” Hankyung sighed as he stood up, “They’re almost as bad as Heechul with the hidden cameras.” He strode to the door, “Come on, we have a performance to do.”
“Guys, wait for me!” Donghae exclaimed as the members all began leaving ahead of him, “I just wanted to be paired with Yunho!”
Kyuhyun swiftly walked back towards him and handed him a small, red, calling card; “Small steps first.”
Donghae stared down at the card as Kyuhyun walked away. It was a club card for Cassiopeia. Donghae sighed as he slipped it into his pocket for later. First, he had to call Heechul.

[00SJ21] He's a Homewrecker

(Day 21 of the Fanfiction series.)
Twenty-one days was twenty days too many. Actually, twenty-one days was too many, however, since the members knew they would never be so lucky with Heechul around, they grudgingly allowed him one day to not complain about his excessiveness.
Thankfully, on the twenty-first day of the challenge, Heechul was not present when Eunhyuk had a complaint. In the beginning, Heechul trusted the members to complain to him on their own because, he knew, that at least one of them would become so overcome with passionate anger towards fanfiction writers, that they would complain without his prompting. However, in the last few days, Heechul had become watchful. The previous evening when Henry had struggled to withhold a complaint form him only pushed him harder.
So, Eunhyuk found it quite fortunate that when he had a complaint, he didn’t have to face Heechul. He loved his hyung, but sometimes the bastard’s smug smile made a person want to shoot him. Or themselves; whichever came first.
Eunhyuk was in the radio station with Eeteuk, Yesung and Henry. Eunhyuk and Eeteuk had just finished their show and the members were all just doing their own thing as they waited to pack up and leave. The members weren’t even giving Eunhyuk much thought since he had been absorbed in his cellular phone since the show ended.
“Damn it,” Eunhyuk murmured, practically slamming his phone down on the table.
The members slowly turned their attention to him, but it was Henry, who sat on his other side, that asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Who has Heechul’s number? I need to call him,” Eunhyuk scowled, sitting back in his chair with his arms crossed,
“Why don’t you have his number?” Eeteuk asked as he pulled out his own cellular to look up the requested digits;
“He would send me texts in the night saying ‘Eunhae’ and ‘Kibum’s watching you’… so I blocked and deleted his number,” Eunhyuk confessed.
“So why do you need it now?” Yesung inquired, “Have a fanfiction complaint? Are they messing up the truth about your lover, too!?”
Eunhyuk blinked, “I don’t have one! I’m straight!”
Eeteuk smacked him upside the head, “The staff, Hyuk… the staff!”
“Sorry,” Eunhyuk murmured, “But yeah I have a complaint. Because of damn fanfiction I can’t even have a decent conversation with one my sunbaenims.”
“Who?” Eeteuk asked,
“You have a sunbaenim?” Yesung added,
“People actually have conversations with you?” Henry joined,
Eunhyuk scowled at him, “Stop hanging out with Kyuhyun.” He turned his attention to the older members, “Tablo. I wasn’t aware of this, but apparently there’s a ship with me and Tablo… well, long story short, his wife heard about them and Tablo hasn’t spoken to me since!”
“There’s a ship with you and Tablo?” Eeteuk blinked,
“How did his wife hear about it?” Yesung wondered as Henry muttered in mandarin.
Eunhyuk glared, “I have no idea what you said, but I bet it’s something snarky… something Kyuhyun would say.” He looked to the other members again, “Yes and I don’t know… but now I feel like I’m some kind of homewrecker without even meaning to be!”
“You shouldn’t be a homewrecker,” Eeteuk scolded solemnly, “It’s like all those stories of Kangin being with someone else.” He glanced at Yesung, “You know… I’ve come across many stories of you being with Kangin.”
Yesung blinked, “Why would I be with Kangin? He’s not small and cute like Ryeowook. And I’m sure raccoons and turtles don’t get along.”
“You’re… not a turtle… or referred to a turtle,” Eunhyuk commented,
“No, but I have turtles,” Yesung said matter-of-factly,
Eunhyuk blinked and then looked back at Eeteuk, “So, yeah, I can’t even talk to a great sunbaenim like Tablo because of fanfiction writers.”
Henry leaned back in his chair, arms crossed as he regarded Eunhyuk, “Is this why Junsu-hyung won’t return your calls either? Have you gained the wrath of Yoochunnie, too?”
Eunhyuk blinked, “No! We’re just best friends! Yoochun is over-reacting way too much! Besides, I’m pretty sure there are more Junsu-Yoochun stories compared to Eunhyuk-Junsu stories.” He glanced away, “And if he had a choice… I’m pretty sure Junsu would pick me; I have better hair.”
Henry uncrossed his arms to reveal his cellular phone. He held it up to his ear, “Yoochun-hyung? Did you hear what Eunhyuk said?”
Eunhyuk’s jaw literally dropped open. His eyes narrowed, a sharp retort on his tongue when his phone rang. He swiped it up, answering it without looking at the caller’s identity; “Hello? Junsu … Yah! I didn’t say that! I mean… I did but… Henry tricked me! He set me up! He’s not cute and innocent, that’s Ryeowook!”
“Not as innocent as you think,” Yesung murmured as he drew little cartoon turtles on the sheets in front of him,
“I’m not trying to make you and Yoochun fight!” Eunhyuk exclaimed, “What? My blonde hair from when we debut? No I was not trying to copy him! Hello? … Hello? Junsu?” Eunhyuk turned his attention back to Henry who had put down his phone just seconds before, “You! Junsu’s mad at me now!”
“I’m not the one who’s trying to come between him and Yoochun,” Henry stated,
“I’m not!” Eunhyuk exclaimed,
“Or between Tablo and his family,” Yesung added absent-mindedly,
Eeteuk turned in his chair to face Eunhyuk, eyes narrowed, “You wrote all those stories about Kangin with other people, didn’t you!?”
Eunhyuk blinked, “What!? No! I didn’t… I was the one complaining… how… how did this turn on me!? Hey! Aren’t you supposed to be my mother or something? Why won’t you protect me?”
Eeteuk turned his gaze away, “I would never mother a homewrecker like you.”
“Oh sure, you’ll mother Kyuhyun but you won’t mother me,” Eunhyuk threw his arms in the air exasperatedly as he collapsed back against his chair;
“Well, of course. If I didn’t mother Kyuhyun, who would Henry get to play with then?” Eeteuk beamed at the youngest member present.
“I know what will make you feel better,” Yesung said. He held up a piece of paper, “Turtles!”
Eunhyuk opened his mouth to reply when his phone rang again, “Hello? Ah, Jaejoong-sshi… no… no I wasn’t trying to make Junsu and Yoochun fight… No, I… since when have I ever had the influence to make Junsu do anything? I…” Eunhyuk closed his eyes as if in pain as he held his phone to Eeteuk, “Jaejoong wants to talk to you.”
“Me?” Eeteuk blinked as he took the phone,
Eunhyuk dropped his head to the table, “He said he wanted to speak to my mother… I’m assuming he means you.”
Eeteuk held the phone to his ear, “Hello, Jaejoong? Ah, yes, yes boys will be boys. Oh, well you see, it all started when Eunhyuk got it in his head to steal Tablo away from his family. So, he began to moonlight as a fanfiction author …”
“I… I’ve never even written a story in my life,” Eunhyuk murmured weakly to the other members,
“Really? You should have said that earlier. I just text Kibum saying you wrote an Eunhae story,” Henry grinned,
Eunhyuk sighed heavily, “That’s it… in the next sub-group you and Kyuhyun are not allowed to be together.”
“I know, where do kids get these crazy ideas from?” Eeteuk’s voice became dominant in the room again, “… Hmm… oh yes, I do blame it on bad parenting, but what can I do? Kangin doesn’t even acknowledge his own children!” Eeteuk nodded a few times as he locked gazes with Eunhyuk, “Yes, that’s probably where Hyukjae got the urge to break up families… so that his home wasn’t the only one broken.”
Eunhyuk sat up with the purpose of defending himself. However, Eeteuk continued his conversation with Jaejoong and Eunhyuk gave up. As he glared at Henry, he wondered how fanfiction could have ruined his life despite being straight.

(Day 20 of the Fanfiction series.)
Twenty days.
It had been twenty days since Heechul proposed the fanfiction challenge and still the cursed thing reigned over the boys of Super Junior and Super Junior-M. Each one was determined to prove Heechul wrong, to try and keep their mouths shut. However, each day one of the fifteen would make a complaint, further proving Heechul right. The twentieth day was drawing to a close and the other fourteen members were tensed with bated breaths as they willed the hours to inch faster. The closer it got to midnight, the closer it got to the possibility of the challenge being over with since no one had made a complaint that entire day. If the challenge could be finished that day, then that means ten more days without the challenge and it meant Heechul would be wrong; no one wanted him to be right because that path could only lead to more chaos.
All fifteen members were at dinner that evening, a slight respite from their ever-busy schedules and their monitoring managers (although they all had suspicions the managers were avoiding them due to how that challenge was affecting them all). As the meal wore on, conversations were being held up and down the long table that consisted of smaller tables pushed together to accommodate the over-sized boy band. However, it was words from one person that drew all conversations to a close and brought a new topic to the table. Naturally, that one person had to be Heechul.
“I may lose today,” he admitted nonchalantly as he waved his chopsticks in the air, noodles twirled and knotted about the tips.
Clinks and clatters were heard as dishes and cutleries were dropped at the sudden admission. Suddenly, fourteen pairs of eyes slowly turned to the second-eldest who popped his noodles in his mouth and chewed as if he hadn’t just baited them with gold.
Suddenly, the members began to chat and reminisce about the past complaints against fanfiction, bringing them together against a mutual enemy. It was on the opposite end of the long table that Henry grew silent, situated between Ryeowook and Donghae. Across from him, Kyuhyun looked up from his soup and raised a brow.
Henry, immediately see the silent question, shook his head almost violently as he looked back down at his plate, one hand slowly rising to cover his lips as if holding something in. Seeing the action in his peripherals, Ryeowook disengaged from his conversation with Yesung on his other side, to turn and look at the younger man,
“Henry? Is something wrong?”
Henry shook his head, “No… Yes… but I’ll tell you later.” He raised his other hand to glance at his watch, “In a few hours, actually.”
Ryeowook blinked and then looked at his own watch, “In a few hours… oh!” He lowered his voice considerably until he was sure only Henry could hear him, “Is this about the challenge?” Henry nodded. “You don’t want Heechul to win, right?”
Henry nodded violently, “I’ve been holding it in all day… I can wait a few more hours.”
Kyuhyun, who had been watching the byplay between the two but was too far to hear, watched, trying in vain to read their lips. When he couldn’t make any of the words out, however, he placed his bowl on the table, straightened in his seat and cleared his throat, “Henry. Is something wrong?” When the younger man looked at him with wide, alarmed eyes, Kyuhyun folded his arms over his chest and smirked, “Ah… I see… You have a complaint don’t you?”
Henry opened his mouth to talk when he realized how silent it had gotten around them. Slowly, he looked to his left and right and was horrified to find all the members watching him. He opened and closed his mouth a few times before managing a weak, “No.”
“The challenge demands complete honesty from the members,” Kyuhyun reminded solemnly, a slight taunt in his tone.
Henry swung his gaze to Eeteuk who was now covering his face with a hand as he shook his head. Beside Eeteuk was Heechul who nodded in support of Kyuhyun’s words. Henry looked at Ryeowook desperately, “I… I…” He swallowed hard as he dropped his gaze to his plate, “I have a complaint.”
Amidst the groans and muttered words from the other members (most of which sounded like "damn Kyuhyun" and "you are evil" and "spawn of Satan" - the latter making Eeteuk say he wasn't Satan), Heechul prompted, “And what has fanfiction done to you today, Henry?”
“Well… nothing specific, not really… it’s just… it’s just… I’m sick of all of these popular ships! People need to write different pairings! Think outside the box and all of that!” He exclaimed, “If your plots are going to be cliché, at least switch up the characters. I mean… it doesn’t help that the writers have some of it right…” He glanced at Ryeowook, “Sorry, hyung… but you and Yesung are just too obvious in public. And Eeteuk and Kangin are even worse –”
“Was I just scolded by my own son?” Eeteuk looked at Kangin who sat on his other side.
Kangin slanted him a look before shoving a forkful of kimchi into the leader’s mouth, silencing the older man as he dealt with the sudden onslaught of spiciness.
“I just… I don’t know,” Henry threw his hands in the air. He crossed his arms then, “I just think I could write better than half the writers out there… AND I would use unpredictable ships, just to keep readers on their toes.” He looked around the table, “Like… like… Shindong and Donghae.”
Shindong stroked his chin, “At least I’d finally be in a pairing.”
“We do dance together a lot,” Donghae nodded. Almost immediately, however, he looked at Kibum at his side, “Kidding… I was kidding.”
“What’s with you and dancers?” Kibum scoffed as he turned his face the other way.
“Or… or… Eeteuk and… and Kyuhyun,” Henry suggested,
Eeteuk blinked as he put down his glass of water, “Why do I keep getting pulled into this?”
Kyuhyun stared at Henry, finally shaken out of his smug stupor, he glanced at the leader and then back at Henry, “Me and him? But he’s so old!”
“Kangin!” Eeteuk whined as Zhou Mi asked tentatively, “Am I too old!?”
Kyuhyun glanced at Eeteuk who was now glaring at him and then at Zhou Mi who stared imploringly at him. Sighing, he moved to stand, “I’m going to the washroom.”
“Oh, no, no, no,” Shiwon pulled him back down to his seat, “You started this, you’re going to have to suffer like the rest of us.”
Henry blinked, “See, or Kyuhyun and Shiwon.”
Shiwon, startled, raised both thick eyebrows in surprised, his grip slack on Kyuhyun’s arm. Meanwhile, the latter was blinking rapidly, “Me and Shiwon? But he’s so ol…” He paused when he slowly turned to look at Zhou Mi. The Chinaman had an eyebrow raised in a silent question and challenge. Kyuhyun cleared his throat as he looked away, “Religious. I was going to say religious.”
“And… I don’t know… maybe writers can pair me up with people who aren’t in SJ-M,” Henry shrugged, “I’m almost always paired with Donghae or Ryeowook, but, I mean… we all get along good, why can’t I be paired up with someone like… like…” He looked around the table, “Sungmin.”
Sungmin grinned, pointing to himself with his spoon, “Me? You want to be paired in a story with me?”
“S…Sure?” Henry shrugged again,
“Hey!” Both Donghae and Ryeowook turned to the younger man between them,
“What’s wrong with being paired with me!?” Donghae demanded,
“Or me?” Ryeowook questioned,
Eunhyuk, who was sitting beside Sungmin, leaned forward across the table, “Hey Henry, what about pairing with me? I’m a pretty cool guy!”
“What are you getting so excited for? You’re straight,” Hankyung reminded,
Eunhyuk looked at him, “So? I’m tired of the predictable ships, too! I’m always paired with Dong…” He paused and slowly glanced at Kibum who was now glaring daggers at him. “Bang Shin Ki’s Junsu,” He finished lamely, “Yes… that’s what I was going to say.”
Shindong, who had pulled out a notepad and was writing, paused and looked up at Henry, “Great job, Henry.”
He smiled sheepishly, “I didn’t mean to cause such an uproar.”
“It’s fine,” Shindong insisted, waving his pencil in the air, “Any other unpredictable ships? If I get inspiration, I’ll write some stories for you. Go on, what ship do you want?”
Henry laughed as he spiked his fingers through his hair, “Actually, my favourite ship is YeWook.”
Unfortunately for the maknae, his statement was heard by everyone else. As the members got into another heated discussion and debate about ships, Heechul sat back in his chair and laced his fingers behind his head,
“I love the sound of me being right.”

(Day 19 of the Fanfiction series.)
“I can honestly say I have no complaints whatsoever about Super Junior fanfiction.”
The Super Junior-M members who were practicing at the dance studio looked over at the member who stated such an unbelievable statement. It was the 19th day of their turmoil caused by the second-oldest member of Super Junior. It was Shiwon to question the statement.
Leaning his hips back against a window sill, one foot propped on the wall, he crossed his arms and raised a thick brow, “Zhou Mi… are you feeling okay?”
“Yes, why?” He smiled brightly at the other man as if he could outshine the sun,
Shiwon glanced at the other members who shrugged. He disregarded Kyuhyun who was shaking his head desperately. He looked back at Zhou Mi who was still grinning like a fool, “You said you have no complaints about fanfiction but… wasn’t it just last week that you were upset because of –”
Kyuhyun practically flew across the distance between them, landing against Shiwon and clasping both hands over the older man’s mouth, “Don’t listen to him Mimi, let’s go practice the dance again, huh?” He looked over his shoulder to his beloved, but it was too late.
The perpetual smile gone and eyes narrowed darkly, Zhou Mi was a dark presence sitting on the ground with the other members. His entire body – lanky, flailing limbs and all – was completely tense, hands fisted so tightly his knuckles were white. Zhou Mi stood up smoothly and quickly.
He threw Kyuhyun a glare, “That’s one thing I’d prefer not to remember.”
“Cool exit, cool exit,” Henry whispered from beside Zhou Mi, looking up at him, “Do a cool exit now.”
Zhou Mi glanced from Henry to Donghae who sat on the other side of him. Both nodded up at him encouragingly. He glared at Kyuhyun again before moving to walk away. He made it one and a half steps before tumbling to the ground in a pile of flailing limbs. Kyuhyun immediately ran to his side while Henry and Donghae burst out laughing as the other members watched in silent amusement.
Slapping Kyuhyun’s hands away, Zhou Mi rolled onto his back to see how he fell. His eyes travelled to his shoes where his laces were tied to one another, restricting his movement. His eyes jumped to the laughing members, “You!”
Henry and Donghae stopped laughing, glancing at one another before looking back at Zhou Mi who was trying to scramble towards them, not bothering to stop and untie his shoelaces. Zhou Mi got close to them before both stated in unison, “Kyumin.”
Kyuhyun’s jaw dropped, hands frozen in mid air on their way to comfort Zhou Mi. The other man’s body trembled as he kicked off his shoes and stood up again. His anger, however, was directed towards Kyuhyun.
“It’s bad enough that there is such a ship in the fanfiction world but even when we are paired up I’m the one always fawning over you! That’s not how it really is!” Eyes narrowed, he stated quietly, his voice like a harsh whisper, “Get comfortable sleeping in your own bed when we’re in China.” With that, he stormed out of the dance studio, the door slamming behind him as he murmured, “I hate fanfiction.”
“Oh my Buddha,” Shiwon leaned his head back against the wall, pinching the bridge of his nose in an exasperated gesture.
Hankyung sighed heavily as he stood up, “I suppose seeing it was Heechul’s doing that caused this… it’s my job to go after Zhou Mi.” Hands in his pockets, head shaking, he slowly followed the other Chinaman.
Kyuhyun, who had been watching Zhou Mi leave, turned his gaze to the two SJM members who had tied Zhou Mi’s shoes together. From the ground, he lunged towards Henry, fingers curling into the younger man’s collar, “I’LL KILL YOU! I’LL MAKE IT SO NO ONE WILL FIND YOUR BODY! I’LL MAKE IT SO YOUR MOTHER WON’T BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE YOU!” He exclaimed, shaking him violently,
“WHY – AREN’T – YOU – ATTACKING – HAE – TOO!?” Henry questioned, his words stilted since Kyuhyun was shaking him,
Kyuhyun paused, “Because he’s older than me,” he replied matter-of-factly. Then, he continued to shake him.
“How will his mother even be able to see him if no one can find his body?” Donghae questioned,
Kyuhyun froze, looking over at Donghae. He blinked and then shook Henry again, “WHY DON’T YOU STOP HIM FROM TEASING ME!?”
“BECAUSE – YOU’RE – SHAKING – ME!” Henry argued.
Finally Kyuhyun stopped and hugged the younger man to him, “I just don’t know what I’ll do if Zhou Mi casts me from his bed!”
“Apparently Buddha isn’t listening. I should go back to God,” Shiwon murmured from the window,
“Go with God, hyung,” Ryeowook nodded encouragingly from his stance on the other side of Henry. He looked back at Kyuhyun, “If he does that, just force your way back into his bed. That’s what I do,” he advised as he slowly walked over to another window, peacefully whistling as he did so.
The other members watched him warily.
“AND ANOTHER THING –” The members looked over to the door which was now open and where Zhou Mi stood, staring, “SO NOW YOU GO AFTER YOUNGER GUYS!? First you’re a cheater and now you’re a cradle robber!?”
“They’re only a year apart,” Donghae commented,
“Not helping,” Hankyung called out, standing in the hallway behind Zhou Mi. He sighed as he pushed Zhou Mi into the room so he could re-enter as well, “I’m going to call Heechul. His stupid challenge is starting to annoy me.”
Kyuhyun blinked, looked at Henry who he was still crushing in his embrace before practically throwing him at Donghae as he jumped to his feet, “No! Mimi, it’s not like that!”
Zhou Mi began walking to the other end of the room when Kyuhyun ran after him, jumping onto his back and knocking them both down to the ground, “What was that for? I’m not Shiwon! I can’t just have people on my back like that!”
“Should I be offended?” Shiwon looked at the others.
“Not at all,” Donghae insisted as he went over to Shiwon and proceeded to climb up his back, hanging off his shoulders easily.
“I DON’T WANT TO SLEEP ALONE!” Kyuhyun cried as he tried desperately to cling to Zhou Mi as the Chinaman tried to wriggle away, managing to free one long limb from the younger man’s embrace.
Hankyung sighed heavily; phone held to his ear, “Actually, Heechul, is Eeteuk there? I need some parenting advice. No, I am not trying to be a father-figure to anyone. Yes, I know I would be the mother because you’re the father… are you aware that if Eeteuk and Kangin are our parents, we’re brothers?” He paused, “Can you put Eeteuk on the phone now, please?”
“I’ll tell the fanfiction authors that our ship is the real one,” Kyuhyun insisted as he gripped Zhou Mi tightly,
Zhou Mi looked over his shoulder at him, suddenly stopping in trying to crawl away from the younger man, “Make a site.”
Kyuhyun blinked, “What?”
“Make a site. About us. About the one true pairing,” Zhou Mi stated seriously,
“No, I will not add on by saying O – T – P,” Hankyung hissed into the phone, “Put Eeteuk on the phone already.”
“I’ll make the site!” Kyuhyun promised,
Hankyung spun to face them, “Don’t make promises like that!” His attention swiftly changed back to the phone, “Hello? Eeteuk! Help! They’re fighting and causing problems!”
Slowly, the other SJM members turned their attention to Hankyung who was obviously fervently conversing on the phone. With Kyuhyun’s loosened hold on him, Zhou Mi managed to crawl out from underneath him. He stood, helping Kyuhyun up as his attention focused on the SJM leader.
“Er… no, no… Kangin doesn’t have to come down here and have a talk with them,” Hankyung insisted,
“So does this mean I can sleep with you when we go back to China?” Kyuhyun inquired,
“Oh Buddha,” Shiwon shook his head,
“No, Shiwon, you’re going back to Jesus, remember?” Donghae prompted from his place hanging off of Shiwon’s shoulders,
“No, you won’t make the site,” Zhou Mi sniffed as he walked away back to the other members,
“But Hankyung won’t let me!” Kyuhyun whined as he walked after him.
Kyuhyun, however, didn’t have to walk very far. Zhou Mi, feet clad only in socks, suddenly slipped on the smooth, wooden floors of the dance studio. He fell to the ground, all four limbs waving frantically in the air as he did so. Kyuhyun dropped to his knees by his side, fretting over him.
“Yes, that was Zhou Mi falling to the ground,” Hankyung stated, shaking his head at the scene.
“Henry, want to see something funny?” Donghae called from Shiwon’s shoulders. At the maknae’s nod, he called, “Hey Zhou Mi.”
Zhou Mi, who had gotten to his knees, rubbing his sore elbows, “Yes?”
“Kyumin!” Donghae grinned,
“Eunhae,” Zhou Mi countered.
Hankyung sighed heavily, his head drooping with exhaustion, “Eeteuk says ‘Kangteuk’.”

Day Ten: Home free
He stretched his arms to the ceiling as he yawned while walking out of the men’s bathroom. He began walking back towards the others when he saw they were all gone save one. He paused a moment, just watching him.
Dressed in sweats and a simple t-shirt, the maknae sat in the middle of a row of seats, surrounded by an assortment of suitcases and duffle bags while only one small luggage belonged to him. He had his earphones in, his face tilted towards the large windows that faced the runway. In his lap was a simple, black baseball cap and the leader of SJ-M had to smile.
Just an hour ago, Henry’s parents had bid them all farewell and safe travels before the seven men went through security and on towards their gate in the airport. The members had politely averted their attention as Henry said goodbye to his parents, but Hankyung had overheard a part of their conversation.
“We’re so very proud of you, Henry.”
His father had said, clapping a hand on the young man’s shoulder. From the corner of his eye, Hankyung had seen Henry suddenly leap towards his father, enclosing him in a bear hug. Silently, his father returned the embrace. When Henry turned towards his mother, she began listing off ways to take care of himself while he was gone.
“And Henry, I lo-… we lo-…”
Hankyung saw she simply raised a hand to his cheek, pressed an affectionate kiss to the other cheek and then run her hand to his cap, gently taking it off his head,
“You know better than to wear your hat inside.”
Taking his hat from her, Henry had leaned his forehead on his mother’s shoulder as she wrapped slender arms around him. When they headed off towards security, Henry had put his hat back on, tugging the bill low to shade his eyes from the other members. Seeing that the maknae had now removed his hat while the others were gone, had made Hankyung miss his own family.
Slowly, the leader made his way over and sat in one of the empty seats beside the maknae. Henry looked over at him and smiled,
“Where are the others?” Hankyung asked,
“Souvenir shopping. Although, I’m pretty sure Shiwon’s looking for a Tim Hortons and a place to buy maple syrup,” Henry said, shaking his head slightly as he smiled.
“We learned a lot about Canada from you, Henry,” Hankyung said, “Had we all believed everything we read on the internet… or, you know, everything Kyuhyun said… we would’ve been so misinformed about Canada.”
Henry nodded as his smile broke into a grin, “Yeah well, Canada can’t be that bad, right? I am Canadian, and I am pretty awesome.”
Hankyung laughed as he reached over and gently ruffled Henry’s hair, “Yeah, you are. Did you enjoy the vacation though? I know with all the misconceptions and Kyuhyun’s mischievousness it was trying on you.”
“It was frustrating at times,” Henry admitted but added immediately, “but it was fun. And really, what can I expect from Kyuhyun-hyung besides his little tricks?” Henry sighed heavily, his grin retreating into a small, almost bittersweet smile, “It felt good to be back here. I didn’t get to see a lot of my old friends, but I talked to some of them… Seeing Mom and Dad – and even my sister – was… well, it was…” He looked down into his lap, toying with the black hat before finishing in a subdued, “…good.”
“I’m glad we did this, then,” Hankyung smiled at him.
“Yeah… thanks, ge,” Henry looked up at him, “You’re pretty awesome, too.”
Hankyung dramatically threw back his head, running a hand through his thick hair, “I know,” he said before looking back at Henry and laughing heartily.
Suddenly, Kyuhyun came running back towards them, managing to jump over the seats and crouch behind them as Zhou Mi slowly followed, a bag of souvenirs in one hand, arms crossed and shaking his head.
“What happened?” Hankyung asked suddenly, turning narrowed eyes to the hiding member,
“Zhou Mi wanted to know where the police guards’ horses were, and when he was asking them, they probably thought he was calling them horses and started chasing him,” Kyuhyun explained as Zhou Mi finally reached them, standing just beyond the barrier of suitcases and duffle bags, his permanent smile somehow missing.
Ryeowook came back, one hand holding Shiwon’s arm, the other holding bags of what were presumably souvenirs and Donghae hanging off of Shiwon’s shoulders. The leader raised his eyebrows in a silent question.
“Shiwon put too much maple syrup in his coffee,” Ryeowook explained as they reached them, releasing Shiwon’s arm and hopping over the various pieces of luggage to sit beside Henry.
“This was the only way we could stop him,” Donghae exclaimed, still hanging on Shiwon who was now crossing his arms over his chest, “He was getting a sugar-high and we were sure he was going to tax himself through gestures – THROUGH HAND GESTURES!”
“Exaggerating,” Shiwon rolled his eyes,
Donghae shook his head in a negative reply, “He’s crossing his arms to further stop himself from gesturing.”
Henry looked at Hankyung, who had begun to pinch the bridge of his nose in an exasperated manner, “It’s back to reality, ge.”
Hankyung sighed as he lowered his hand from his nose and looked at the bickering parties of SJ-M, “Yeah… but it’s…”
“Good?” Henry offered with a grin.
Hankyung smiled at him, picking up Henry’s hat, he slid down enough so he could lean his head against the back of the seat and covered his face with the hat, “It’s still vacation until we board our plane.”
Henry chuckled, “Oh, ge.”
Hankyung tipped the hat off his face enough to look at Henry, “I believe, Henry, that it’s ‘O Canada’.”
Henry’s jaw dropped in silent amusement. Hankyung flashed a grin at him as he pulled out a new stick of Henry’s raspberry-flavoured lip balm and handed it over to the maknae.
“Besides, China has Super Junior – M. So, I win.”

Day Nine: Kyuhyun is king of the world
It was Sunday and Henry’s parents brought the members into the heart of Ontario’s capital city. Their final sight-seeing stop was the tallest building in the world. At over 300 metres in the air, SJ-M was currently the highest Korean-Mandarin idol group in the world. As they got off the elevator on the lowest level of the Skypod, Henry stumbled into Hankyung, his parents remaining down on the ground and shopping as the members toured the C.N. Tower.
Hankyung grabbed Henry’s arm, “Are you okay, Henry?”
He nodded as he got his bearings and straightened, “That elevator ride always gets to me,” he explained as he shook the fuzziness from his head, “Well, hyungs, look around. There’s a glass floor that you can stand on and look down to the very bottom of the tower, there’s the observation deck that actually is open – it’s securely fenced in, so don’t start thinking things of Canadians being suicidal – so, just look around.”
Within moments of beginning to spread out, Hankyung and Zhou Mi were suddenly swarmed by senior-aged tourists, exclaiming what good looking young men they were.
“Shiwon, Shiwon, Shiwon!” Donghae called in a sing-song voice as he grasped one of Shiwon’s hands with both of his own, “Let’s go to the glass floor!”
Henry watched as Shiwon and Donghae ran off to look for the famous glass floor. When he turned back to the remaining members, Ryeowook was on his own.
“Hyung… where’s Kyuhyun?” Henry asked suspiciously,
Ryeowook shrugged, “He ran off somewhere.” He glanced towards the group of tourists who began taking pictures with Hankyung and Zhou Mi, “Which is surprising considering Zhou Mi looks ready to run away.”
“Mhmm…” Henry spotted Kyuhyun through one of the doors leading to the observation deck, “There he is.” Suddenly, Henry felt two hands grasp his hand and a fierce tug. He looked over to find Ryeowook wrapping his arms around Henry’s one arm, “Hyung?”
Donghae and Shiwon were behind Ryeowook, trying to grab his arms, “C’mon Ryeowook,” Donghae said, “It’s so cool to look down to the ground!”
“No! I don’t want to!” Ryeowook cried out, “Henry! Make them stop!”
Henry looked at the two eldest present and blinked, “What are you two doing?”
“We want to bring Ryeowook to the glass floor!” Shiwon grinned, his cheeks dimpling.
Henry looked to Ryeowook, “It is pretty awesome to look down at the ground from up here, hyung.”
“I don’t care! It’s too high! I don’t care how awesome it is! I don’t care how cool it’ll be! I’d prefer to be un-cool!” Ryeowook exclaimed, his hold tightening ever so slightly around Henry’s arm.
“It’s not like you can fall through it, Ryeowook,” Henry insisted, “It’s very sturdy and, I know it seems pretty sketch, what with a glass floor and an open observation deck, but I promise that Canadians don’t have a tendency towards self-mutilation.”
As Donghae and Shiwon continued to try to pry Ryeowook off of Henry, the Canadian’s eyes slowly drifted away towards where he had seen Kyuhyun. He could see Kyuhyun looking out of the observation deck and then noticed a peculiar movement. Henry watched, perplexed, as Kyuhyun slipped a hand into his pocket and then pulled something out. Henry couldn’t see what it was, clutched in the older man’s hand, but he grew suspicious immediately.
Succeeding where Donghae and Shiwon failed, Henry slipped his arm easily from Ryeowook’s clutches, muttered an ‘excuse me,’ and sprinted towards a door leading to the observation deck. The moment he stepped out, he felt and heard the fierceness of the wind on the observation deck. He made his way towards Kyuhyun,
“What are you doing?” Henry questioned, trying to speak above the roar of the wind,
“I heard that if you dropped a penny from here you could kill someone!” Kyuhyun exclaimed, revealing a small, copper disk in the palm of his hand.
Henry blinked before narrowing his eyes, “SO YOU’RE GOING TO KILL SOMEONE WITH A PENNY!?”
“Well, it’d be nice to know if it’s true!” Kyuhyun stated,
“Give me the penny, Kyuhyun!” Henry extended a hand towards Kyuhyun,
The older man raised an eyebrow, “No. I’m king of the world up here and I want to see what happens when I throw a penny from here!”
“Kyuhyun, don’t do it!” Henry exclaimed,
“TRY AND STOP ME, SHORTY!” Kyuhyun replied, a smirk spreading on his lips.
Henry’s jaw dropped, “I GREW SINCE DEBUT!” Suddenly, he leapt at Kyuhyun, knocking them both to the floor. Straddling Kyuhyun’s abdomen he struggled to pry Kyuhyun’s fingers open in an attempt to take away the murderous penny.
“Henry! People are looking!” Kyuhyun cried out as he tried to stretch his arm away from Henry’s reach,
“I don’t care! They can’t understand!” Henry replied as he was practically laying his torso over Kyuhyun’s as he stretched his arms to grab Kyuhyun’s fisted hand,
“BUT IT LOOKS LIKE WE’RE TRYING TO HAVE SEX!” Kyuhyun complained loudly,
“Then just give me the damn penny!” Henry exclaimed, straightening his torso, glaring down at Kyuhyun and with his arms akimbo,
“What are you two doing!?” Henry and Kyuhyun looked up as Hankyung and Zhou Mi filled one of the doorways from inside. Hankyung had his arms crossed, the leader in him appearing, “Do you know how much attention you two are getting? You both know better than to cause a scene!”
Henry sighed as he crawled off of Kyuhyun and stood up, “I was trying to stop Kyuhyun from committing murder via a penny.”
Kyuhyun subtly slipped the penny into his pocket, “I was just kidding, Henry. Geez, I’m far from having a dark, murderous streak.”
“If you were just trying to get a penny from Kyuhyun, why were you on top of him?” Zhou Mi demanded, his ever-present smile gone and his eyes narrowed angrily,
“He just loves me that much,” Kyuhyun threw the older man an innocent smile, slinging an arm around Henry’s shoulder.
Zhou Mi eyed Kyuhyun’s arm and then stormed back inside the Skypod. Hankyung threw them both a challenging glare, silently daring them to cause more trouble and then followed Zhou Mi back inside.
Allowing Kyuhyun’s arm to remain around his shoulders, Henry crossed his arms over his chest and threw the older man a slanted look, “You planned all that, didn’t you? You knew I’d be watching you and anticipated I’d react like I did to draw Hankyung and Zhou Mi out here.”
“Yup, and now I get jealousy sex later on,” Kyuhyun grinned as he spun back to look out of the observation deck, moving Henry along with him,
Henry shook his head as he looked out at the sky with Kyuhyun, “You’re more diabolical than I thought, Kyuhyun.”
“I’m the king of the world right now, Henry,” Kyuhyun smiled, squeezing his arm affectionately around the maknae’s shoulders, “And later, I’ll be the king of Zhou Mi’s world!”
Henry uncrossed his arms, slipping one behind Kyuhyun’s back, “I’m glad you came to Canada, hyung.”

Day Eight: The best letter in the alphabet
On the eighth day of vacation, the Super Junior-M members found themselves on a boat. The steady, mild rocking of the waves below was coupled with the thunderous roaring of walls of water falling around them.
“The horseshoe belongs to Canada and the other side belongs to the U.S.,” Henry stated as he stood perpendicular to the railing on the boat’s lower level. He and everyone else on the boat wore cheep, thin, blue plastic rain-ponchos to protect themselves from the mist of the waters and, when closer to the waterfalls, the drenching rain. “The Americans get the best view of the falls, but at least coming on the boat makes up for it.”
“This is so cool, Henry,” Ryeowook stated, both hands gripping the railing as he peered at the towering walls of water, the wind whipping the poncho’s hood from his head, “I’ve never gotten to see something like this before!” As Ryeowook looked around, he spotted a familiar face emerging from the inner dwellings of the boat, “Kyuhyun, come look at the Falls!”
Kyuhyun joined Ryeowook and Henry at the railing, “How’s Zhou Mi?” Henry inquired
The second-youngest rolled his eyes, “Green as seaweed. Incidentally, Shiwon’s not looking so well either, so they’re comforting one another.”
“Hankyung and Donghae?”
“On the top level of the boat with your parents,” Kyuhyun answered as he looked up at the waterfalls as the boat slowly neared, “Apparently they’re getting inspiration for new dance moves with the flow of the boat – Ryeowook, what are you doing?”
Ryeowook turned back to them, blushing slightly at having been caught, “Well, I don’t know a lot of English, so I thought while we’re here I should listen as much as possible – not to eavesdrop, but just to listen to the accent and how to properly pronounce words. Anyway,” he turned his back to the railing, “I was wondering why Canadians have a favourite letter.”
Henry blinked and then turned suspicious eyes to Kyuhyun who silently shook his head and shrugged. Hesitantly, he looked away from the ever-mischievous Kyuhyun and looked back to the oldest member present, “Ryeowook… what do you mean?”
“Canadians,” he repeated, “have a favourite letter and I want to know why.”
The maknae leaned a forearm against the railing, “Hate to tell you this, hyung, but Canadians don’t have a favourite letter.”
“But… you do! They do!” Ryeowook insisted, “I hear it all the time whenever I hear Canadians talk.”
Henry speared his fingers through his hair, slightly slicking it with the mist from the water, “I’m almost scared to ask… what letter?”
“The letter ‘A’,” Ryeowook said, “One of the first things I learned was the English alphabet, and I always hear the letter ‘A’ – and, I know it’s the letter because it’s hardly ever followed by a noun, but is usually at the end of the sentence.”
Kyuhyun watched the emotions play on Henry’s face. He saw the maknae resist the urge to either lay his forehead against his forearm, which still rested on the railing, or to sigh and roll his eyes. Kyuhyun, however, had to bite down on his lower lip to stop from laughing when Henry’s suppressive efforts ended in his right eye twitching; Ryeowook all the while staring at him with wide, innocent eyes.
“Ryeowook, Canadians aren’t saying ‘A’, they’re saying ‘eh’,” Henry explained,
Ryeowook blinked, looked at Kyuhyun helplessly and then looked back at Henry, “I don’t hear a difference.”
“Well… listening-wise I guess there isn’t much, but, they’re not saying the letter… it’s more of a… a small, inconsequential word, really,” Henry replied, “It’s used for… well, there are a lot of uses, but it’s usually used for affirmation, like asking someone to agree with what they said. Like…” He paused a moment and said, “‘It’s pretty cold here’ and then they’d say ‘eh’ afterwards to ask for confirmation or agreement from the other person.”
“So, Canadians don’t have a favourite letter?” Ryeowook asked, his expression dropping slightly,
Henry shook his head, “But if it helps, if we did, it probably would be ‘A’.”
Ryeowook sighed as he turned back to the railing as the boat drew even closer to the waterfalls. Folding his arms atop the railing, he leaned his chin on his arms, “And here I was thinking I had learned a new cultural… peculiarity.”
“Well,” Kyuhyun piped up, “You do touch on a Canadian peculiarity, but you have the wrong letter.”
Ryeowook straightened and looked over his shoulder at the younger man, “What do you mean?”
“Canadians think that it’s bad luck to say the letter ‘O’ when you’re on a boat,” Kyuhyun said in a tone so matter-of-factly that Ryeowook was almost inclined to believe him. Almost.
Ryeowook slanted him a look and turned his attention back to the waters, “I don’t believe you! You’ve lied to me on several occasions during this vacation, Jo Kyuhyun. The most recently dealt with hunting for food!”
“I do admit I have gotten… carried away,” Kyuhyun admitted, “But this time, I’m not kidding. Right Henry?”
Before Henry could reply, however, Ryeowook tilted his face up towards the sky, the boat drawing alongside to the foot of the Falls’ crashing waters as he opened his mouth big and yelled, “O!”
What Ryeowook got in return, however, was a mouth full of rain from the Falls. Spitting out the water over the railing, he slowly turned to Kyuhyun and Henry who were holding their hoods tight about their heads. Ryeowook, who had forgotten to raise his hood again, had a head full of soaked hair and a slight salty taste in his mouth. He glowered at the two younger men who were having a hard time not laughing.
“I warned you, hyung,” Kyuhyun swallowed a laugh as he shifted to hide slightly behind Henry.
“Sorry, hyung,” Henry was clutching the railing, in an attempt to stay straight as his body shook with silent laughter, “For once, Kyuhyun was right.”

(Day 4 of the Fanfiction series.)
It was on the fourth day of Heechul’s challenge that those in SJ-M were travelling back to China to do promotions for ‘Super Girl’. Seated on the plane, Henry sat by the window, arms crossed and gaze out the window. The other six members, from the moment they all climbed into the van to head to the airport, hadn’t said a word to the youngest. The way he crossed his arms in rebellion, the way his eyes were slightly narrowed and just the way he kept chewing on his bottom lip emitted an aura of ‘stay the fuck away from me’ that the other members did not want to challenge. So, it was with great surprise – and relief – when Ryeowook voluntarily took the seat next to Henry on the plane.
“How are you doing, Henry?” Ryeowook asked happily, putting on his best smile.
Kyuhyun, who sat in the seats behind them, muttered to Zhou Mi, “You never ask a Canadian ‘how are you doing’ when it’s so obvious they’re pissed. They’re liable to attack with an igloo pick.”
Henry, who had heard every word, chose not to respond to the comment, but could picture Zhou Mi nodding, an expression of adept attention on his innocent-minded face. Instead, Henry muttered, “Fine,” and then continued to stare out the window, chewing on his lip still.
“You’re lip’s bleeding,” Ryeowook commented,
Henry easily licked at his lip before working it once more, the taste of copper on his tongue.
“… Are you sure nothing’s wrong?” Ryeowook attempted again,
“I don’t care about the honesty pact,” Henry muttered, his tone bitter and resentful.
Ryeowook blinked, “Honesty pact? For what?”
“Heechul’s challenge,” Henry replied, “I don’t care about all he said that we have to be honest, because frankly, I could hate every piece of fanfiction in the world – EVEN FROM CANADA – and I will never, never admit that he is right.”
“Has a fanfiction gotten little Henry upset?” Kyuhyun teased as he stood, draping himself over the back of Ryeowook’s seat.
“Go away,” Henry muttered,
“What was it that got you angry?” Kyuhyun continued, his tone teasing and in a sing-song manner, “Was it about you being Canadian? How about the way Shiwon-hyung speaks better mandarin than you? Oh – oh! I know – how you’re always paired with Ryeowook!”
“What’s wrong with me?” Ryeowook gasped,
“None of those and,” Henry finally looked at the member beside him, “Nothing’s wrong with you, hyung.”
“Then what’s wrong?” Zhou Mi inquired. The entire time he had been trying to tug Kyuhyun back into his seat, hissing at him to leave Henry alone. However, he finally relented to also standing and looking over Henry’s seat, joining in on the conversation.
“I think the biggest insult is that she’s also Canadian,” Henry said, turning his glare out the window.
The other three members looked at one another before asking, in unison, “WHAT IS!?”
“I was on this Super Junior fanfiction site, and whenever I come up in a story, I always have raspberry lip gloss and I’m always applying it or something like that,” Henry explained, “I want to set the record straight with her that I use lip chap; not gloss!”
“Is that why you haven’t used your lip chap at all today?” Ryeowook asked, noticing that Henry’s bottom lip was red and raw and, once again, had the slight tinge of blood smeared across it.
“Yes… no… DAMN IT, I DO NOT USE LIP GLOSS!” Henry exclaimed.
Those nearest to them suddenly became quiet. Hankyung approached from his seat, closer to the front than theirs, “Henry!” Hankyung hissed, “Why are you yelling?”
It happened in a flash, but somehow, Ryeowook, Kyuhyun and Zhou Mi managed to grab a hold of Henry as he lunged towards the SJ-M leader. Hankyung, used to being randomly attacked because of Heechul, didn’t even flinch. Instead, he stood perfectly still and raised a single eyebrow in silent questioning.
“It’s your damn boyfriend’s fault!” Henry hissed angrily,
Hankyung glanced at the stares aimed their way by other passengers, “I don’t have a boyfriend,” and then added in a more rushed whisper, “Shut up!”
“Him and his damn challenge!” Henry exclaimed, “I would’ve been perfectly happy with life! I would’ve been ignorantly blissful without ever reading a single fanfiction about myself if it weren’t for your damn –” Finally noticing that other people were still staring, he finished in a low whisper, “Heechul.”
“Why are you attacking me when it isn’t my challenge?” Hankyung questioned,
“Because it’s your Heechul,” Henry grounded out, “And you could’ve stopped him! While no one else could have - you would have! Now look! My happiness has been destroyed by the knowledge of how people think of me in the fanfiction world!”
“But it’s just one girl,” Kyuhyun said dryly, plopping down in his seat and getting bored with the situation already,
“But she’s Canadian, too!” Henry emphasized as he fell back into his seat. He leaned his forehead against the window, staring forlornly at the mockingly bright sky, “Even my own people are against me.”
“… Chinese people?” Hankyung offered,
“No! My other people,” Henry sighed,
“The fans?” Ryeowook piped,
“NO! CANADIANS!” Henry flung his arms exasperatedly into the air. “That damn Cheonsa could at least get the facts right… that it’s lip chap, not lip gloss,” He muttered resentfully as he finally pulled out a small tube of said lip chap and applied a thin layer,
“Exactly,” Ryeowook nodded in agreement, “And how you prefer strawberry lip gloss, not raspberry!”
What ensued before the flight attendants came and asked everyone to take their seats was Henry shoving his lip chap back into his pocket before attempting to attack Ryeowook, Hankyung trying to protect the third youngest member, Kyuhyun laughing while Zhou Mi tried to hush him and Ryeowook watching Henry with an innocent look on his face as he asked,
“Are you angry because I said strawberry?”

(Seventh day of the O Henry series.)
Day Seven: The Big Nickel
It was Friday and Henry’s parents, who had taken the day off, had shoved all the SJ-M members into a rented twelve-seated van and began driving off to Sudbury, Ontario to begin sight-seeing. As they drove towards northern Ontario, the members took in the countryside, the landscape slowly growing more blanketed by snow and the temperature slowly lowering the more they drove on.
After an almost five-hour drive (traffic, Henry explained, was always horrible around his city, even on the highway), the members and Henry’s parents arrived at a town in Ontario called Sudbury.
“So what’s in Sudbury again?” Hankyung asked,
“A big tourist attraction in Ontario,” Henry’s dad explained, “It’s a giant nickel!”
“What’s a nickel?” Donghae asked,
“Oh, I know!” Hankyung said, “It’s when Canadians eat pickles which are dipped in maple syrup! They would have called it a ‘mickel’ but it’s a bit awkward to say, so they call it a ‘nickel’!”
Henry’s dad was silent as his mother turned in her seat to gape at the SJ-M leader. Henry, however, turned in his seat to glare towards a specific member, “Kyuhyun!”
“Shh!” Zhou Mi said, having been sandwiched between the two younger members, “He’s sleeping!”
“Fine,” Henry muttered before sitting back again in his corner of the van.
“Um… Hankyung, a nickel is a Canadian five-cent coin,” Henry’s mother explained. She turned back to face the front, “And in Sudbury, there’s a very famous nickel. It’s 30 feet tall!”
“Ohhh!” The non-Canadian-non-sleeping members exclaimed.
“It’s one of the landmarks Ontario is known for,” Henry’s father continued, “The others being Niagara Falls and the C.N. Tower; we’ll take you all there later this weekend.”
A few silent moments passed in the van when, finally, the van came to a stop. The members excitedly spilled out of the van – Zhou Mi taking a few moments to wake up Kyuhyun despite Henry’s urges to just push him out – and waited for Henry’s parents. The seven young men patiently walked behind Henry’s parents who explained the history of the nickel and its significance to Canada and even the entire world.
Once before it, the men stared at the giant slab of metal, their eyes sweeping over every minute detail on the big nickel. Finally, Kyuhyun, who had been in a post-sleep stupor, stated bluntly,
“I don’t get it.”
“Were you not listening to Henry’s mom?” Shiwon asked, a slight scold in his voice as he raised a thick eyebrow to emphasize his inquiry,
“Oh, I was and I understand why there’s a big coin and what it stands for,” Kyuhyun insisted, “But I still don’t get it. How can a giant coin be considered one of the major monuments in Canada?”
“It’s because it’s so big,” Hankyung said matter-of-factly,
“But wouldn’t a giant igloo or beaver make more sense?” Kyuhyun challenged. He looked at Henry, “Why not a giant maple leaf? It’s on your flag!”
Henry looked at him and slanted him a defensive look, “It’s not like I’m the one who said ‘Hey Canada, let’s build a giant coin to commemorate how Sudbury is the nickel mining centre of the world!’.”
“Well,” Kyuhyun put his hands on his hips, “Why weren’t you?”
Henry blinked, “Because I wasn’t born yet… have you been taking shots of maple syrup again? Maybe you were eating ‘mickels’?”
Kyuhyun, recognizing the reference immediately, turned his attention back to the big nickel, “No. And I still don’t get it. How does this big piece of metal attract tourists?”
“I don’t know,” Henry said honestly, “And for some reason my parents still take me, my brother and sister up here every year to see it.”
“See,” Kyuhyun looked at the other members, “Even Henry doesn’t understand the nickel, and he’s Canadian!”
“Yeah,” Henry sighed, “I don’t get it, but the big nickel’s kind of a big deal.”
“Hey! When you guys are done here, we’ll take you all out to eat some beaver tails!” Henry’s dad said before shuffling back to the van to escape the cold wind.
Henry could feel the members’ eyes on him the moment his father mentioned the delicious pastry. Slowly, hesitantly, he turned just as the other six members crowded around him. He held up his hands to stop them from blurting out their worries – whether or not Kyuhyun had filled their heads with more lies – as he was sure they would do.
“It’s not what it sounds like,” Henry insisted, “It’s like… bread, but a dessert or treat.”
“You make bread out of beaver tails!?” Ryeowook gasped,
“See! I told you they eat beaver,” Kyuhyun stated smugly, crossing his arms about his torso.
Henry ran a hand through his hair, “No, no… okay, Canadians eating beaver is about as real as a ‘mickel’.”
“I want to try that too,” Shiwon spoke up, “Maybe we can get some Tim Hortons coffee?”
“Ryeowook-hyung, there is no beaver in a ‘beaver tail’. Kyuhyun, we do NOT eat beaver! And Shiwon,” he looked at the older man, the only one who had been rational the entire day, “Yes, we can get Tim Hortons coffee.”
He winked at Henry, “I always keep a small bottle of maple syrup for whenever we get coffee now.”
Henry sighed. Even Shiwon had failed him.

Day Six: I'm in the zone, but...
The next evening, Henry and Donghae returned home an hour after leaving the other members there. They found the other five members in the living room watching a movie. Upon entering the living room, Henry greeted them all, even Kyuhyun who had taken responsibility for the vase breaking the other day as an apology to Henry; the only productive thing Kyuhyun had done all vacation (although, Henry was annoyed that his mother didn’t even frown when Kyuhyun explained what happened).
“What are you watching?” Henry asked as he came over and sat on the arm rest of one of the couches,
“Watching a Canadian movie,” Shiwon replied,
Henry blinked at the screen, “This movie is in French… and it’s black and white.”
“It’s a traditional Canadian movie,” Zhou Mi managed to say before Kyuhyun knowingly – albeit, late – covered his mouth with a hand.
Henry sighed heavily, spiking his fingers through his thick hair, “I can’t even dignify that with a response anymore.”
Before anyone could question him, Donghae stumbled into the room.
“Did you have fun at the club?” Shiwon asked,
Donghae crossed his arms as he trudged across the room and plopped down beside his friend, “No! I just wanted a night to go see what a Canadian club was like and maybe even dance for a bit, but even that didn’t happen.”
“What went wrong?” Hankyung asked, pausing the video to hear Donghae properly,
“I was practically molested on the dance floor!” Donghae exclaimed before adding, “FROM ALL SIDES!”
The five stay-at-home members gaped at him, expressions ranging from shock to anger on their faces. Only Henry was sighing and shaking his head slightly.
“What do you mean?” Kyuhyun asked,
Henry shot him a look, “You mean you didn’t feed him some bullshit story, hyung?”
Kyuhyun looked, unrightfully, scandalized, “I would never!” When Henry raised one eyebrow, he immediately amended himself with a, “Well, not this time…”
“No, no, Kyuhyun didn’t say anything to me,” Donghae insisted before explaining, “But I was! The crush of people was ridiculous! It was all hot and crowded – that club must have been breaking some fire violations with the amount of people in one room!”
“Hot and crowded? That doesn’t sound like a club,” Hankyung frowned, “I always though clubs were the same all around the world.”
“They are,” Henry stated, “It’s just in North America, the clubs are less conservative and there’s no respect of personal space.”
“Well that’s not right,” Donghae stated vehemently, “I just wanted to go – you know, get in the zone and just dance the night away, but nooo! Bodies and hands everywhere… I’ve discovered places on my body I hadn’t realized existed!”
“That’s how clubs are on this side of the ocean. I guess I forgot to warn you,” Henry apologized, rubbing the back of his neck wearily,
“But how are people expected to dance at the club when there’s no space to dance?” Donghae questioned, “If that were the case, they shouldn’t have music or… or… or even a dance floor! Dance floor… ha! There was more gyrating than any true dancing!”
“Honestly, now a day, people are more expected to fornicate than dance at a club,” Henry replied solemnly,
“What’s ‘fornicate’?” Ryeowook asked innocently.
The other members stared at him, silently, before Donghae spoke out, “Well, you said that’s how clubs are in North America. Does that mean clubs in the U.S. are just as bad?”
“If not worse,” Henry nodded,
“What’s the difference?” Donghae inquired earnestly,
“They actually do fornicate at a club,” Henry said, his expression deadpan, “And they have guns.”
As the members were silenced thoroughly by shock, Ryeowook repeated, “What’s ‘fornicate’?”
“Well,” Kyuhyun spoke up, “Let me explain, hyung-”
The other five members, however, interrupted in unison with a very impassioned, “NO!”

Day Five: I want a lucky rabbit's foot!
Wednesday marked the middle of SJ-M’s vacation in Canada. It was close to noon when Donghae approached Henry who was now dusting a singular Ming vase in the ground floor’s hallway. Donghae came up to Henry and just squatted by the vase’s table. Elbows propped on his knees and his hands cradling his face, he stared up at Henry as the younger man continued to dust the vase.
After five minutes of complete silence, Henry sighed heavily and lowered the duster and looked down at Donghae, “Yes, hyung?”
“I’m hungry,” Donghae replied,
Henry blinked, “Oh… ‘kay… You know you can just go grab whatever’s in the kitchen and pantry, hyung. And I’m pretty sure my sister made heart-shaped cookies last night with your face on them she did out of icing…”
“Kyuhyun ate those,” Donghae sighed,
“But… he had his cookies last night,” Henry stated,
“I know,” Donghae replied with a slight shake of his head, “Do you think the manager hyungs would notice if we left Kyuhyun here in five days?”
Henry laughed as he crossed his arms loosely, “And subjugate Canada to Kyuhyun? No way, hyung.” He placed the duster by the vase and started walking down the hall, “Come on, hyung, let’s go see what’s in the kitchen.”
Donghae straightened to his full length and followed Henry to the kitchen. He sat on a stool by the kitchen’s island while Henry opened and closed cupboards, the fridge and even disappeared into the pantry for a few minutes. When he came out, his hands were on his hips,
“Is something wrong?” Donghae asked,
“There’s no food,” Henry explained. He looked around the kitchen, “Is this my house? How can there be no food?”
“Probably because Kyuhyun was up in the middle of the night eating.” Henry and Donghae glanced over as Ryeowook entered through the door from the living room. When they both stared at him confusedly, he explained, “Um… he said something about working up an appetite.”
“Working up an appetite? He hasn’t done any…” Donghae stopped immediately and looked at Henry who paled considerably,
Henry blinked, “I’ll kill him! I let him have my bed last night because he said his back was hurting!” Henry made a leap for the door but Donghae restrained him by simply grasping some of his t-shirt. “Hyung, let me go!”
“He’s sleeping and you know if you wake up Zhou Mi too, he will not be happy,” Donghae stated matter-of-factly,
“I don’t care what Zhou Mi ge does! He did the same thing that… I don’t even want to think about what they did!” Henry exclaimed,
“Just wait until they… um… come down,” Donghae insisted, “Please, Henry? I’m really hungry.”
Henry sighed heavily, “Fine… if I don’t feed you my parents will kill me.”
“Not to mention the E.L.F.s,” Donghae added,
Henry winced as Donghae released his hold on him, “Well, I’ll have to go out to get us some food. Anything particular?” When Donghae and Ryeowook both began listing off foods, Henry held up his hands in a Shiwon-like gesture to silence them, “Why don’t you both come with me?” Donghae nodded when Ryeowook looked at him nervously. “What’s wrong?”
“I… I want to but… I don’t know how to use a gun,” Ryeowook explained.
“What?”
“I don’t know how to use a gun. My parents never thought it a necessity for me in everyday life in Korea,” Ryeowook replied simply.
Henry literally sunk into a squat, his arms crossed over his knees and his face buried in the circle his arms created. His muffled words came to them, “I don’t think I even want to know.”
“I do,” Donghae said jovially as he patted Henry’s bowed head. He then looked at Ryeowook, “What does using a gun have to do with getting food?”
“Well… to get food you… you have to go and hunt… with a gun,” Ryeowook’s eyes jerked between Donghae and Henry, “And shoot the animal… don’t you?”
“ARGH!” Henry exclaimed as his arms moved to wrap over his head instead of encircling it.
Ryeowook’s eyes widened as he switched his attention from the seemingly pained maknae to Donghae, “D-D-Don’t they?”
“DONGHAE!” Henry whined,
Donghae patted Henry’s head as he looked at Ryeowook, “No, Ryeowook, they don’t.”
“But… Canadians… they need… they need to hunt for their food and they…” His head was swinging up and down as he switched his attention between the other two members, “They shoot birds and caribou… and rabbits… and-”
At this point a string of muffled English words, presumably swear words, were coming from Henry as Donghae placed his hands over the younger man’s ears. “Ryeowook,” Donghae hissed, “Canadians have grocery stores like Korea does.”
“They do!?” Ryeowook gasped, his jaw literally dropping in surprise. Almost immediately, his expression dropped and a small pout formed, “But I wanted a lucky rabbit’s foot…”
Donghae’s hands must not have been secured over Henry’s ears, for another string of muffled English came from him. Eventually, Henry straightened to his full height; doing it so fast that Donghae stumbled backwards with surprise. Landing on his backside on the ground, Donghae watched as Henry headed towards the kitchen door,
“Where are you going?” He asked,
“I know where Ryeowook got his information from!” Henry declared, “And I don’t care anymore – I’m going to wake up Kyuhyun and throw him out of my room! After…” he paused in the doorway, “I burn my sheets…”
They watched as Henry ran off, disappearing into the main hallway. However, it was only a few seconds before there was a loud crash and an even louder ‘O CANADA!’ following it.
Heading towards the door, both Donghae and Ryeowook heard a cry, “NOT THE MING!”
Ryeowook looked at Donghae, “So at Canadian grocery stores, what are those like?”
“Well,” Donghae began, throwing an arm around Ryeowook’s shoulders, “The bigger grocery stores are like ours that have all kinds of foods; but those are in the bigger cities. Everywhere else, all they sell is maple syrup.”
The younger man’s eyes widened considerably, “Really? Maybe we’ll get to see one of the small stores today!”
Donghae nodded as they entered the hallway, spotting Henry kneeling before shards and shards of broken vase; “We should get Kyuhyun to come; he seemed to know a lot about Canadian grocery stores!”

Day Four: Damn You, Mr. Sun!
It was the fourth day of SJ-M’s vacation in Canada and they had decided to stay in that day (Shiwon had expressed such a love for Canadian traditional coffee that he made everyone try; no one slept that evening). It was a Tuesday and thus, Henry was home alone with the members. Henry’s parents were out at work and his younger sister – whom he had begged his parents to keep away from the members because of her tendency to fangirl – was at school; his older brother was away at post-secondary school. They had to wait until Friday before going to sight see with Henry’s parents.
Henry, who had also indulged in a few cups of coffee, but was used to it and managed to fall asleep quite easily, was sitting in the living room watching television. His attention was pulled from the television set when a familiar tall and lanky form filled the doorway from the main hallway. Leaning against the doorway, he yawned, still dressed in his pyjamas.
“Morning Zhou Mi ge,” Henry said brightly, “Come sit with me on the chesterfield.”
Zhou Mi blinked, “What’s a ‘chesterfield’ and why are you calling me ‘ge’? You never do. Why are you being so nice?”
“A chesterfield is a couch, and I woke up an hour ago; give me thirty more minutes and I’ll stop being nice,” Henry said with a roll of his eyes.
“You should just call it a couch then; don’t need to get all fancy and complicated,” Zhou Mi murmured as he walked over and practically collapsed on the couch, toppling over so that he completely leaned against Henry, “Well, while you’re feeling nice, I’ve been wondering something.”
“Oh?” Henry replied as he turned his attention back to the television.
“Canada is supposed to be the ‘True North’, right?” Zhou Mi asked,
“Um… yeah, I guess it is,” Henry said,
“THEN WHERE’S THE SNOW!?” Zhou Mi demanded suddenly,
Henry was so startled that he threw the remote in the air. He managed to catch it before it hit his head and then turned his head to look at the head on his shoulder, “It’s… It’s March.”
“That doesn’t answer my question,” Zhou Mi stated, sitting up properly so he could glare at the younger man, a pout marring his usually smiling face.
“There’s no snow in March,” Henry stated,
“Don’t lie to me!” Zhou Mi accused, “I did my research! Winter is from December until March! Winter! Winter means snow!’
“But even in Korea the winter is shorter than before; global warming and all that,” Henry replied, waving the remote around as if the gesture expanded on his explanation.
Zhou Mi looked at him, unconvinced, “But this is Canada! I mean, you don’t even live in an igloo! What kind of Canadian are you!?”
Henry jumped to his feet, “What did you research!? Only those in Northern Canada live in igloos and that’s because it’s all rural snow-country up there!”
“But… but this is Canada,” Zhou Mi stressed,
“But this is Southern Ontario; Souuuuuuthern!” Henry replied,
“But… but if you don’t live in an igloo, how do you stay warm in the winter?” Zhou Mi demanded, “Igloos are built to keep people warm from the snow and cold!”
Henry gaped at him as his hand grew limp and the remote fell from his hand onto the couch. “We… we have central heating systems for the winter.”
“They have central heating systems in-”
“Do not even finish that sentence, ge!” Henry warned, running a hand through his hair, “Canada is every bit as advanced as Korea… okay, maybe not that advanced… Canada is every bit as advanced as the United States, but we’re better liked, okay?”
Zhou Mi gave him a suspicious look, “If you say so…”
“I do and don’t listen to Kyuhyun anymore, too. He told you about beaver meat and told Shiwon some lies about maple syrup,” Henry said as he sat down back down on the couch, picking up the remote as he did so.
“You mean I did a shot of maple syrup last night for nothing!?” Zhou Mi gaped.
Henry blinked and leaned his head against the back of the couch, “I don’t know whether or not to cry or to laugh.”
Zhou Mi sighed, “Every time I researched ‘Canada the north’ all I ever got was information about snow and igloos and polar bears – which, by the way, I have yet to see one! – and since we landed two days ago, I’ve seen none of it.”
“When you searched that, ge, it probably gave you information about Northern Ontario,” Henry sympathized, patting his knee, “But like I said, with global warming and such, our winter’s gotten shorter.”
He wasn’t sure how, but Zhou Mi got sadder, his bottom lip protruding into a deeper pout, “I was so excited for snow.” He suddenly looked up at the ceiling, shaking a threatening fist, “DAMN YOU, MR. SUN! DAMN YOU AND YOUR HAPPY RAYS OF SUNSHINE!”
Henry stared at the older man before smiling and patting his knee again, “Would it make you feel better if I tossed a shot of maple syrup into Kyuhyun’s lunch later today?”
“Usually I’d say no, but he lied to me, getting caught up in his mischievousness,” Zhou Mi said, leaning his head back against Henry’s shoulder, “So, yes. Give him an overdose of maple syrup and he’ll come to me for comfort.”
Henry laughed just as another person appeared in the doorway from the main hallway. Kyuhyun looked at the pair, blinked, and then turned and left. They could hear stomping going up the stairs and the sound of a door slamming.
“Don’t worry, ge,” Henry replied, “He’ll be okay by lunchtime.”
“Sure, and it snows in Canada,” Zhou Mi stated sarcastically, sitting up straight and crossing his arms.
“It… it does, just not… Oh Zhou Mi ge, let me explain it again,” Henry sighed heavily, “Canada has four seasons too…”

Day Three: Je m'appelle Shiwon
Henry always knew there’d be some kind of language barrier when the other members of SJ-M accompanied him back to Canada. What he didn’t realize what type of language barrier it would be. For example, he knew that Donghae, Ryeowook and Kyuhyun would have the most difficult time conversing with his parents while Hankyung and Zhou Mi had it much easier. Shiwon, he discovered, belonged in the middle. Actually, Shiwon belonged on his own playing field and, unfortunately for Henry, he didn’t realize this until he was out shopping with Shiwon.
It was day three of their vacation and the others, relishing in it being a vacation, wanted to sleep in. Henry, however, knew that his parents would never – NEVER – let him sleep past 8 o’clock, even on the weekend. So, while the other members were still asleep, Henry began doing chores. At some point between landing in Canada and that morning, his parents had some kind of revelation that their son was back and therefore, would be able to do chores again. Also at some point during that same time frame, they decided it a brilliant idea to make him catch up on years’ worth of chores. He was not amused.
He was steadily sweeping the stairs when he heard a creak on the second floor. He glanced to the top of the stairs where Shiwon stood, dressed for the day. He lowered one foot to the first stair, but before it made contact, Henry yelled out,
“NO!” Shiwon immediately retracted his foot, “If you make the stairs dirty again, hyung, I swear I will kill you and they’ll never find me! I speak several languages, I can survive anywhere!”
Shiwon raised his amused eyebrows and just nodded, leaning against the wall and waiting for Henry to allow him to go down the stairs.
Henry blinked, “That’s it? No reply? No argument? No pulling rank?”
Shiwon grinned so that his dimples showed, “Henry, I’m not Kyuhyun.”
Henry nodded as he finished sweeping, “Well, you might as well come down the stairs. I’m sure my parents will make me sweep them again later tonight.”
Shiwon slowly trudged down the stairs, yawning as he stretched his arms upwards. “I could use some coffee – Canada… Canada does have coffee, right?”
Henry slanted him a peculiar look, “No hyung, we actually just drink maple syrup in the morning.”
Shiwon’s thick eyebrows rose high into his forehead, “I knew that, I just thought there’d also be coffee.”
“What? Hyung!” Henry sighed as he turned and threw his broom and dustpan into a broom closet, “Come on, hyung; don’t believe everything Kyuhyun tells you about Canada!”
“He used to be so cute and innocent,” Shiwon shrugged, “I forget sometimes that Kyuhyun is not the same maknae he once was.”
Henry shook his head as he headed for the front door, slipping on his sneakers as he did, “Yes well, I can start correcting another one of Kyuhyun’s lies; we are going to get coffee.”
“Oh, they also have coffee shops here too?” Shiwon grinned excitedly as he pulled on his own shoes.
Henry sighed as he grabbed his keys and gestured for Shiwon to precede him out the door. “I don’t even know if I can dignify that with a response.”
“Is it a traditional coffee shop?” Shiwon inquired after walking in silence for a few minutes.
“I’m almost afraid to ask… what does a traditional coffee shop entail?” Henry inquired tentatively,
“Well!” Shiwon began, his eyes lit with anticipation, “It’s built by logs and there are animal furs on the ground.”
He ran a hand through his hair, “Sorry, but this is about as traditional as a coffee shop is going to get in Canada,” he said as he stopped suddenly.
Shiwon stopped beside him. They were in front of a small, single-level, and brown building. In thick, red cursive, ‘Tim Hortons’ was emblazoned across the top of the building. “Oh, oh! Can I order?” Shiwon asked as they entered,
Henry blinked, “Can you order?”
Shiwon nodded as they slowly fell into the small line of customers, “I’ve been practicing for weeks!”
“Really? But you only speak mandarin to my parents…” Henry stated,
“Oh, Henry, you’ll be impressed,” Shiwon grinned as they followed the line to the counter, “I think I’m pretty good. Of course, I have no one to talk to with it.”
Henry blinked again, “Talk to me, then!”
“I wanted it to be a surprise… but okay,” Shiwon cleared his throat before talking tentatively and with an accent, “Je m’appelle Shiwon.”
“Oh dear God,” Henry muttered,
“It’s not right? Okay, okay… Je… Je suis Shiwon,” Shiwon grinned at him,
Before Henry could even say anything, they had reached the cashier and, to his horror, Shiwon turned to the girl at the cashier and greeted her, “Bonsoir – er – Bonjour Madame.”
The girl gaped at him.
“Erm… Mademoiselle?” Shiwon attempted,
The girl looked back and forth between Shiwon and Henry, not knowing what to do.
“Il y a un problème avec mon française?” Shiwon looked at the girl, holding up his hands in a questioning gesture. “Je suis désolé. Je connais un peu de français.”
Henry finally stepped in, “Sorry about my friend,” he said in English, “Can I get two large coffees, double-double?” She nodded fervently. Henry paid and pulled Shiwon to the side to await their coffees, “Shiwon, not all Canadians speak French.”
“But… it’s a national language. Kyuhyun didn’t tell me, I researched!” Shiwon exclaimed,
“Okay, let me correct myself: not all Canadians speak French after ninth grade,” Henry explained as he was handed their coffees and he gave one to Shiwon, “I don’t even remember my French anymore.”
“I learned another language for no reason!?” Shiwon gaped as they exited the coffee shop and started walking back to Henry’s house.
“I’m afraid so,” Henry replied, sipping his coffee.
“Il s'agit d'un outrage. Je ne peux pas croire que je parle votre langue nationale mieux que vous!” Shiwon exclaimed before taking a small sip of his own drink.
Henry blinked, “What?”
“I said good coffee,” Shiwon lied, a scowl still on his lips and his thick eyebrows still furrow.
“It is,” Henry grinned, “This is what I’d call traditional Canadian coffee.”
“Oh! So it’s made of maple syrup!” Shiwon grinned, momentarily forgetting the French incident.
Henry sighed, casting his gaze to the sky above, “Mon dieu!”

[00OH1] Day One

(First day of the O Henry series.)
Day One: Mine's Better than Yours
It was a bright shining day when Henry boarded the airplane with the six other members of Super Junior-M. As he and the other members put away their bags and got settled in, he sat in a window seat and looked out the glass, briefly contemplating what got them all there that day. This was the first time the seven of them were boarding an airplane that wasn’t transporting them to another part of Asia. Instead, they were heading to a place Henry called ‘home’; they were heading to Canada.
Henry had been missing his family and Canada a lot lately and so, Hankyung had gotten together with the other members and devised a plan: they would travel with Henry to Canada on their next vacation. When Hankyung had told him about the idea, he had never felt more grateful to the leader. When the others began showing their enthusiasm for the trip, he had never loved the other members more.
In the weeks leading up to their departure date, Henry was bombarded with questions about Canada. When he first became a trainee – and, later on, a member – there had been brief questions about his family and his home town. Now, however, the questions were more intricate, asking for more detail than ‘yes, it does snow there’. It was the hardest he had seen his hyungs study and it was the only time he had seen all six of them reading at the same time. It was also the most English attempted he had heard from any of them.
It was endearing, really.
However, Henry should have realized it wasn’t going to be picture perfect; he should’ve known anything involving all Super Junior – M members (especially that damn Kyuhyun) was bound to be nothing less than chaotic.
The first sign happened on the first day of their holiday. Henry turned to look away from the window just as Hankyung sat down in the seat next to him, a big smile on his face,
“Are you excited, Henry?”
Henry nodded, “Especially since you’re all coming with me. For once, I’ll be showing you hyungs around!”
“Oh, there’s something I was wondering, what was that book you showed the people at the airport?” Hankyung asked,
Henry blinked, “Book? What book?”
“The one with your picture in it; it was blue?” Hankyung elaborated.
“My picture? Blue? Do you mean my passport?” Henry asked as he picked up his backpack that he had placed at his feet. Reaching into its depths, he withdrew the thin, blue passport, “This?”
“That’s your passport?” Hankyung asked,
“Yes – what’s wrong with my passport!?” Henry demanded, eyes narrowing slightly,
“Well… it’s blue,” Hankyung replied as if that explained everything.
“So, yours and Zhou Mi’s is red,” Henry pointed out,
“Yes, but red is a strong colour; a brave colour; a proud colour,” Hankyung stated,
Henry raised an eyebrow, fighting the twitch of his lips, “I didn’t know a colour could be so arrogant.”
Hankyung rolled his eyes, “It’s better than blue; blue’s so… so… depressing.”
“It is not depressing! Your face is depressing!” Henry defended,
“No, your passport,” Hankyung nodded matter-of-factly, “Is depressing.”
Henry replaced his passport and dropped his bag back onto the floor. Crossing his arms, he stared at his hyung, “I don’t hear you talking about Korea’s passport.”
“Nothing wrong with green,” Hankyung stated, “And we both have Korean passports.”
“Mine are still better than yours,” Henry countered as he began to untangle the headphones that had been given on their way onto the airplane.
Hankyung raised his eyebrows in suspicion; his dongsaeng’s attitude had turned too quickly; “And why do you think your passports are better than mine? We both have Korean passports and I’ve just explained why my red passport is better than your blue passport.”
“Mine are better, hyung,” Henry explained as he began to slip the headphones over his ears and plug them into the armrest’s console, “Because my passports don’t have your ugly picture in them.”
Hankyung’s jaw dropped in silent protest. Henry flashed a grin at him as he pulled out his raspberry-flavoured lip balm and began applying a thin layer on his lips.
“Besides, Canada’s bigger than China. So, I win.”
