(Sixth day of the O Henry series.)


Day Six: I'm in the zone, but...

The next evening, Henry and Donghae returned home an hour after leaving the other members there. They found the other five members in the living room watching a movie. Upon entering the living room, Henry greeted them all, even Kyuhyun who had taken responsibility for the vase breaking the other day as an apology to Henry; the only productive thing Kyuhyun had done all vacation (although, Henry was annoyed that his mother didn’t even frown when Kyuhyun explained what happened).

“What are you watching?” Henry asked as he came over and sat on the arm rest of one of the couches,

“Watching a Canadian movie,” Shiwon replied,

Henry blinked at the screen, “This movie is in French… and it’s black and white.”

“It’s a traditional Canadian movie,” Zhou Mi managed to say before Kyuhyun knowingly – albeit, late – covered his mouth with a hand.

Henry sighed heavily, spiking his fingers through his thick hair, “I can’t even dignify that with a response anymore.”

Before anyone could question him, Donghae stumbled into the room.

“Did you have fun at the club?” Shiwon asked,

Donghae crossed his arms as he trudged across the room and plopped down beside his friend, “No! I just wanted a night to go see what a Canadian club was like and maybe even dance for a bit, but even that didn’t happen.”

“What went wrong?” Hankyung asked, pausing the video to hear Donghae properly,

“I was practically molested on the dance floor!” Donghae exclaimed before adding, “FROM ALL SIDES!”

The five stay-at-home members gaped at him, expressions ranging from shock to anger on their faces. Only Henry was sighing and shaking his head slightly.

“What do you mean?” Kyuhyun asked,

Henry shot him a look, “You mean you didn’t feed him some bullshit story, hyung?”

Kyuhyun looked, unrightfully, scandalized, “I would never!” When Henry raised one eyebrow, he immediately amended himself with a, “Well, not this time…”

“No, no, Kyuhyun didn’t say anything to me,” Donghae insisted before explaining, “But I was! The crush of people was ridiculous! It was all hot and crowded – that club must have been breaking some fire violations with the amount of people in one room!”

“Hot and crowded? That doesn’t sound like a club,” Hankyung frowned, “I always though clubs were the same all around the world.”

“They are,” Henry stated, “It’s just in North America, the clubs are less conservative and there’s no respect of personal space.”

“Well that’s not right,” Donghae stated vehemently, “I just wanted to go – you know, get in the zone and just dance the night away, but nooo! Bodies and hands everywhere… I’ve discovered places on my body I hadn’t realized existed!”

“That’s how clubs are on this side of the ocean. I guess I forgot to warn you,” Henry apologized, rubbing the back of his neck wearily,

“But how are people expected to dance at the club when there’s no space to dance?” Donghae questioned, “If that were the case, they shouldn’t have music or… or… or even a dance floor! Dance floor… ha! There was more gyrating than any true dancing!”

“Honestly, now a day, people are more expected to fornicate than dance at a club,” Henry replied solemnly,

“What’s ‘fornicate’?” Ryeowook asked innocently.

The other members stared at him, silently, before Donghae spoke out, “Well, you said that’s how clubs are in North America. Does that mean clubs in the U.S. are just as bad?”

“If not worse,” Henry nodded,

“What’s the difference?” Donghae inquired earnestly,

“They actually do fornicate at a club,” Henry said, his expression deadpan, “And they have guns.”

As the members were silenced thoroughly by shock, Ryeowook repeated, “What’s ‘fornicate’?”

“Well,” Kyuhyun spoke up, “Let me explain, hyung-”

The other five members, however, interrupted in unison with a very impassioned, “NO!”
