“What is it like to be in love?”

“Free. It feels free, like there’s nothing that can stop me, nothing can hold me down.
It feels as if I can do anything because of love and I’m free of the fear of failure because,
even if I can’t do everything, at least at the end of the day,
there’s still me and him. When all else fails, love won’t.”

Reign on Me: Prologue

Two kingdoms reigned over the world. They were divided into the Light and Dark Kingdoms. Those who were of the Light Kingdom had souls that were made of the Light. Those who were of the Dark Kingdom had souls that were made of the Dark. A small handful of individuals from both kingdoms were blessed with the power of Light or Dark.

Those of the Light were able to manifest their powers in the elements of fire and air. Those of the Dark were able to manifest their powers in the elements of earth and water. Their powers and strength in general were further supplied by the sun and moon; the Light by the sun and the Dark by the moon. They were two pieces of the same whole, neither good while the other was bad; they were each other’s balance.

However, after hundreds of years reigning the world together, presiding over their own people, their own lands and collaborating for unity, the time came when the kingdoms parted ways. An assassin from the Dark Kingdom stole into the Castle of Light and murdered the king and queen. The Light Kingdom was thrown into chaos as the young Prince of Light stepped into his father’s shoes as ruler of the Light Kingdom. From that moment forward, the Dark Kingdom and all their people were banished from the Light Kingdom and their lands. The Dark Kingdom retaliated, refusing to take the blame for one person’s actions.

The world was thrown into discord and despair as war tore the lands, people and kingdoms apart. War ravaged the world for years, both sides sustaining heavy casualties. Finally, when the young king could no longer bear the suffering of his people and the mourning of his parents, he accepted the truce the Dark King offered him. Thus, the kingdoms were separated and peace once again fell upon the world. However, how long could peace remain while death and distrust are constantly on the minds of the people?
